Sofia named best European city break destination for 2027

Sofia has been named the best European destination for short city breaks in 2027 by the tourism organization European Best Destinations. The ranking follows a 33-day vote involving 11,614 participants who selected from 64 shortlisted European cities.

According to the results, Sofia secured the top position due to its combination of historical heritage, cultural landmarks, diverse cuisine, and proximity to nature. Key attractions highlighted include the ancient ruins of Serdica, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the UNESCO-listed Boyana Church, and Vitosha Mountain.

Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev stated that the recognition is an opportunity to showcase the city to a wider international audience and stimulate local business and tourism. As part of the award, European Best Destinations will launch an international tourism campaign for the city over the next 12 months, featuring partnerships with media outlets such as Forbes International.
