Sofia ranked as top European city break destination for 2027

Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, has been ranked as the top European destination for city breaks for the year 2027 by the platform European Best Destinations. The ranking was determined through a 33-day voting process involving over 11,000 subscribers, following an initial selection by travel journalists and experts.

Sofia secured the first position due to its combination of ancient history, contemporary cultural life, and proximity to mountains, specifically Vitosha. Key attractions noted include the St. George Rotunda, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Tolerant Square, and the UNESCO-listed Boyana Church.

Following Sofia, Lisbon, Portugal, took second place for its historical neighborhoods and gastronomy, while Copenhagen, Denmark, ranked third. The complete top 10 list includes Cannes (France), Basel (Switzerland), Bristol (United Kingdom), Leuven (Belgium), Milan (Italy), Calpe (Spain), and Verona (Italy).
