Sofia ranked as top European urban destination for 2027

Sofia has been ranked as the best European urban destination for 2027 by the European Best Destinations platform. The Bulgarian capital outperformed major tourist hubs such as Lisbon, Copenhagen, Cannes, and Basel.

The ranking attributes Sofia’s success to its combination of millennia-old history, a dynamic cultural scene, and its unique proximity to Vitosha Mountain. This allows travelers to combine culinary experiences, museums, and nightlife with mountain hiking and panoramic views within a single weekend.

Key cultural landmarks noted include the St. George Rotunda, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Square of Tolerance, and the UNESCO-listed Boyana Church. Lisbon followed in second place, while Copenhagen took the third spot.
