Sohag authorities launch land reclamation and security enforcement campaigns

Authorities in Sohag, Egypt, have launched a major crackdown involving both land reclamation and security enforcement. Governor Tariq Rashid announced the start of the 30th wave of operations to remove illegal encroachments on state-owned lands and unauthorized construction on agricultural areas. This initiative, scheduled to run from August 29 to November 20, 2026, will be conducted in three stages to protect agricultural resources and enforce the law.

To ensure accuracy, the Ministry of Local Development and the Military Survey Department have established an integrated information platform to document all removals in real-time. This digital system is linked to existing databases for land legalization and spatial changes, allowing officials to monitor reclaimed lands and prevent future violations.

Simultaneously, the Sohag Security Directorate has conducted intensive security campaigns in the Al-Maragha and Akhmim districts. In Al-Maragha, police apprehended over 20 individuals wanted for various judicial rulings. In Akhmim, security forces arrested several suspects in possession of narcotics and unlicensed weapons. These operations are part of an ongoing effort to pursue fugitives and combat drug trafficking and illegal arms possession within the governorate.
