Governance and law enforcement in Sohag, Egypt

Authorities in Sohag, Egypt, have initiated a series of administrative and security operations aimed at law enforcement and public service management.

In late August 2026, Governor Tariq Rashid announced the 30th wave of land reclamation operations. This initiative, scheduled through November 20, 2026, focuses on removing illegal encroachments on state-owned lands and unauthorized construction on agricultural areas. To support these efforts, the Ministry of Local Development and the Military Survey Department implemented a digital platform to document removals in real-time. Alongside land reclamation, security forces conducted campaigns in the Al-Maragha and Akhmim districts to apprehend fugitives and seize narcotics and unlicensed weapons.

By early September 2026, the governorate’s focus expanded to include increased coordination between executive authorities and members of the House of Representatives. Governor Rashed held meetings to address developmental files and service sector obstacles. Additionally, weekly public meetings were held to process citizen grievances regarding social assistance, medical treatment, job opportunities, and building violation reconciliation procedures.
