Khyber Pakhtunkhwa faces potential governor’s rule amid political and security crisis

Political tensions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have escalated as the federal government considers imposing governor’s rule or an emergency in the province. Federal ministers, including Amir Muqam and Azam Nazeer Tarar, have suggested that the legal and constitutional requirements for such measures may have been met, citing the provincial government's failure to manage rising terrorism and law and order issues.

Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has accused the KP administration of being a ‘B-team’ for the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), noting that the province witnessed 2,456 terror attacks over the past year. In response, KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has rejected these threats, stating he would rather resign than compromise his political ideology. Afridi has also criticized the effectiveness of current military security strategies, calling for a comprehensive policy review to achieve lasting peace.

Amidst this friction, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has rescheduled its planned long march to Islamabad for October 4. KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has urged the Chief Minister to cancel the march, warning that the province's security situation is deteriorating and that the protest would be ineffective. While the federal government weighs constitutional options to take control of the province, the PTI maintains its readiness for dialogue while continuing its mobilization efforts.
