Sokoto village attack leaves 12 dead, dozens abducted

Armed men launched a night assault on Lajinge village in Nigeria's northwestern Sokoto State around 11 p.m. on Saturday, continuing until about 3 a.m. on Sunday. Witnesses said at least 12 people were killed and four others injured. Six members of one family were burned alive after the attackers set fire to their house. Women and children were abducted, and the gunmen stole large numbers of livestock. Police spokesperson Ahmed Rufai said authorities are investigating and will provide further updates. The raid follows a wave of bandit violence, coming a week after bandits killed at least 24 farmers in neighboring Zamfara State.
