Nigeria security alert: Imams abducted in Zamfara and terror plots reported in Osun

Security concerns have escalated in Nigeria following two distinct incidents involving religious figures. In Zamfara State, armed bandits ambushed a vehicle along the Dakko–Damri feeder road in Bakura Local Government Area, abducting six imams. The clerics were reportedly traveling to Talata Mafara to attend a prayer gathering organized by Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari in support of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.

In Sokoto, a prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Musa Lukuwa, was stabbed in the neck and stomach by a worshipper following Juma’at prayers. The attack, which was allegedly motivated by perceived blasphemous sermons delivered by Lukuwa, resulted in the suspect being killed by a mob. Lukuwa was receiving treatment at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital.

Concurrently, the Department of State Services (DSS) has issued warnings to religious leaders in Osun State regarding intelligence of terrorist plots. These plots reportedly aim to target churches, mosques, and public gatherings in the South-West region to destabilize the country ahead of the 2027 general elections. Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
