Sokoto cleric survives knife attack amid mob killing

Tension has increased in the Sokoto metropolis following a violent incident at a mosque in the Mabera area. Shortly after the Jumu’at prayer, an unidentified man allegedly attacked Islamic cleric Sheikh Musa Ayuba Lukuwa with a knife.

Worshippers overpowered the assailant, but the situation escalated when a mob reportedly beat the attacker, who subsequently died from his injuries. Police have confirmed one death related to the incident, though the identity of the deceased remains under investigation.

In response, the state government has ordered the mosque to be closed as a crime scene. Security agencies have launched investigations, and an advisory committee of Islamic scholars has been formed to address the religious tensions arising from the controversy.
