Sokoto launches youth peace clubs and zero‑dose child immunisation project

A Save the Child Initiative programme, funded by the European Union and implemented with partners Action Against Hunger and International Alert, inaugurated Youth Peace Clubs in ten local government areas of Sokoto State. The clubs, drawing members from youth and women’s groups, aim to teach negotiation, mediation and problem‑solving skills to promote peace and social change. Participants praised the effort, with one youth noting the gathering “afforded them the opportunity to come together, identify problems and how to solve them.”

Connected Development (CODE), together with UNICEF, the Sultan Foundation and the Sokoto State Primary Health Care Development Agency, launched the Sokoto Tracking and Accountability for Equitable Immunisation (STRACE) project to reach zero‑dose children. Funded by Gavi, the initiative will operate in seven LGAs with the highest numbers of children who have never received a vaccine. CODE’s “Follow The Money” approach will monitor vaccine distribution, public spending and service quality, with the goal of ensuring every eligible child is identified, reached and protected.
