Immunization tracking initiatives in Northern Nigeria

In Nigeria, initiatives have been launched to address child immunization gaps through tracking and accountability projects.

In Sokoto State, the Sokoto Tracking and Accountability for Equitable Immunisation (STRACE) project was introduced by Connected Development (CODE), UNICEF, the Sultan Foundation, and the Sokoto State Primary Health Care Development Agency. Funded by Gavi, the project focuses on reaching zero-dose children in seven local government areas by monitoring vaccine distribution and public spending.

Following this, the Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development launched the Zamfara Tracking and Accountability for Equitable Immunization (Z-TRACE) Project in Zamfara State. Also funded by Gavi, this initiative aims to vaccinate 80,772 zero-dose children across seven priority local government areas. The project utilizes community mapping and networks of local organizations to reach underserved settlements, targeting approximately 30 per cent of the state’s estimated zero-dose child population.
