Sokoto State Police neutralise bandit, recover AK‑47 and 137 cattle

In early July, the Sokoto State Police Command’s anti‑kidnapping unit and tactical teams responded to a distress call from Daraye Village in Wamakko LGA. After a prolonged gun battle, officers neutralised a suspected bandit, seized an AK‑47 rifle with a loaded magazine of 28 rounds, and recovered 137 cattle that had been rustled. The operation prompted the police to intensify confidence‑building patrols and place neighbouring divisional headquarters on high alert.

The command also highlighted earlier successes in the same period: on June 28, police recovered 65 cows after intercepting bandits in Tureta LGA, and on June 30 they retrieved 72 cows in a separate raid. Overall, the recovered livestock, valued at millions of naira, were returned to their owners, and no casualties were reported during the July 4 engagement.
