Nigeria security: Terrorists and gunmen kill multiple people in Sokoto and Kogi

Nigeria is experiencing a surge in violent attacks across Sokoto and Kogi states. In Sokoto, terrorists attacked the Gorau community in Goronyo, killing four residents and abducting four others. Local officials allege the attackers targeted families of recent boat accident victims to search for N1m government relief funds. In a separate incident in Tureta Local Government Area, attackers killed Islamic cleric Mallam Abubakar Danjimme and abducted at least 10 residents from Gidan Kare village.

In Kogi State, gunmen on the Itobe-Ochadamu Expressway killed Ishaq Yunusa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman for Dekina Local Government Area, and abducted another passenger. The victim's vehicle, a blue Toyota Corolla, was found abandoned at the scene. Security forces have intensified operations in the region to locate the missing passenger and apprehend the perpetrators.

Additionally, security forces in Sokoto successfully repelled an attempt by suspected terrorists to overrun a military barracks in Sifawa, Bodinga Local Government Area, following a gun battle that resulted in several attackers being killed.
