Solana Boosts Mainnet Block Capacity to 100 Million Compute Units

Solana has upgraded its mainnet block limit from 60 million to 100 million compute units (CUs), a 66% increase in capacity. The change, part of improvement proposal SIMD‑0286 submitted by Lucas Bruder of Jito Labs, was activated on mainnet at the start of epoch 1009 on July 29 after successful testing on devnet and testnet. The upgrade preserves the 400 ms block time and existing per‑account limits of 12 million CUs and a total account‑data size cap of 100 MB.

The higher block capacity is intended to accommodate growing demand from payment and trading applications, reducing competition for block space during market volatility. The Solana Foundation cites validator performance improvements and widespread adoption of the XDP Linux networking technology—used by over 70% of validators—as enabling factors. Infrastructure providers such as RPC services, indexers, and exchanges are advised to verify compatibility with the new limits.
