Solana reaches 300ms slot target, impacting arbitrage and liquidity

Solana’s mainnet has reached a 300-millisecond slot target, shortening the intervals allocated for block production. This speed increase, alongside the call by validator software developer Anza for the adoption of Agave v4.3, is expected to alter trading opportunities and network operating costs.

Research suggests that these shorter trading intervals may benefit liquidity providers in automated market makers (AMMs). By reducing the time between blocks, there is less opportunity for arbitrageurs to exploit outdated pool prices when external market prices move. The benefit to liquidity providers is most pronounced in fee-charging pools where the trading fee acts as a barrier against small, short-term price discrepancies. However, the net economic impact depends on a complex balance of faster execution, transaction fees, and competition between trading bots.
