Solar eclipse and meteor shower to be visible in Sweden

A partial solar eclipse and meteor shower will be visible across Sweden on Wednesday evening. In Falun, the eclipse is expected to reach its peak at 19:54, with approximately 85 percent of the sun obscured by the moon. The 2047 Science Center and the astronomical youth association Gil-Estel will host public viewing events at the ski jumps in Falun between 19:00 and 20:30, offering telescopes with solar filters and specialized eclipse glasses for loan.

Experts warn that viewing the sun directly without proper protection can cause permanent retinal damage and loss of visual acuity. Standard sunglasses are insufficient for protection. Observers are advised to use certified solar eclipse glasses meeting the EN ISO 12312-2 standard or to use projection methods, such as directing sunlight through a telescope onto a surface on the ground, to view the phenomenon safely.
