Solar eclipse in Valladolid draws scientific interest

A total solar eclipse recently occurred over parts of Spain, including Valladolid, drawing significant attention from scientific experts and international researchers. Miguel Sánchez, president of the university group SYRMA, described the event as a profound experience, noting that the visibility in the region was superior to what might be seen in locations like China, South Africa, or Siberia.

Researchers from Belgium and Extremadura gathered at the Atmospheric Optics Group research center in Mudarra, Valladolid, to observe and measure the solar corona. Observers noted distinct changes in light quality, describing a shift toward a more metallic tone as the sun and moon aligned.

Looking ahead, the next major solar events are expected in 2027. An annular eclipse, or ‘ring of fire,’ is predicted for February 6, visible in parts of Chile, Argentina, and West Africa. This will be followed by a total solar eclipse on August 2, 2027, which is expected to be one of the longest in duration, passing over Southern Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.
