2026 August 12 Total Solar Eclipse Not Visible in Turkey, Visible Across Europe and North America

A total solar eclipse will occur on 12 August 2026 when the Moon passes directly between Earth and the Sun. The path of totality will cross Greenland, Iceland, northern Spain, Portugal, Russia and the Arctic/Siberian region. Countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the United States east coast, and North‑West African states (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia) will see a partial eclipse.

In Turkey the eclipse will not be observable at all; the Sun will be below the horizon during the maximum phase, placing the whole country outside both the total and partial zones. Polish observers will experience a deep partial eclipse, especially in the western and north‑western regions, with up to 84‑85 % coverage around cities such as Wrocław and Poznań. Similar partial coverage is expected in Kosovo and other parts of the Balkans.

The event coincides with the peak of the Perseids meteor shower, making the week especially attractive for astronomers and sky‑watchers. Scientists plan to use the eclipse to study the Sun’s magnetic field, corona and solar‑storm activity, building on historic observations such as the 1919 eclipse that confirmed Einstein’s theory of relativity.
