Solar energy costs in Loon op Zand to rise due to policy changes

The abolition of the net metering scheme (salderingsregeling) in the Netherlands, effective January 1, 2027, is expected to significantly increase electricity costs for solar panel owners. In the municipality of Loon op Zand, annual costs are projected to rise by an average of 354 euros, which is higher than the North Brabant average of 341 euros and the national average of approximately 305 euros.

As a result of this policy change, there is a growing trend toward the use of home batteries to maximize energy self-consumption. While households currently use only about 30 percent of their solar energy directly, the use of battery storage can increase this to between 65 and 70 percent. The market for home batteries in the Netherlands is expanding rapidly, with sales expected to at least double this year.
