Solar module prices in China rise amid upstream cost pressures

Solar photovoltaic component prices in China showed mixed trends during the fourth week of August 2026. According to the TaiyangNews PV Price Index, solar wafer prices increased by 4.2% to 24.4% week-on-week, while solar cell prices experienced a significant double-digit decline, falling between 11.8% and 19.7%.

Mainstream TOPCon module prices in China also saw upward movement. The OPIS Chinese Module Marker for TOPCon modules below 645W rose 2.86% week-on-week to $0.108/W FOB China. This increase is attributed to rising upstream production costs.

Market analysts note that while manufacturers have raised offer prices, actual transaction levels for mainstream modules have not yet followed suit due to weak demand. Some market participants attribute recent price volatility to expectations surrounding U.S. Section 232 tariffs, which are scheduled to take effect on December 4. These measures include minimum import prices for ingots, wafers, cells, and modules, alongside tariffs on polysilicon derivatives.
