Solar panel recycling technology aims to recover valuable materials
As the global solar industry expands, the recycling of end-of-life photovoltaic (PV) panels is becoming a strategic necessity to support a circular economy and reduce waste. While misconceptions exist regarding the recyclability and environmental safety of solar panels, modern technologies allow for the recovery of significant materials, including glass, aluminum, copper, silicon, and silver.
In Australia, PV Industries operates a facility in Sydney capable of processing approximately 200,000 panels annually, recovering up to 90% of a panel's weight. Additionally, the Australian government is funding a $24.7 million (USD 17.34 million) national pilot program designed to recycle up to 250,000 panels while developing a framework for a national recycling system.
