SolarEdge and Infineon partner on solid-state circuit breakers for AI data centers
SolarEdge and Infineon Technologies have extended their partnership to develop solid-state circuit breaker (SSCB) technology designed for 800 VDC power architectures in AI and hyperscale data centers.
The collaboration aims to solve critical engineering challenges in high-voltage direct-current (DC) distribution. As AI workloads increase power density, operators are moving toward DC-native power paths to reduce energy losses from AC-to-DC conversions. However, unlike AC systems, DC circuits lack a natural current zero, making conventional mechanical breakers slower and prone to arcing.
SolarEdge is leading the SSCB design, while Infineon is providing silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor components, specifically SiC JFET technology, to enable fast fault isolation. This development builds upon a previous agreement regarding SolarEdge’s solid-state transformer (SST) platform, which utilizes Infineon components to enable high-efficiency conversion from medium-voltage grids to DC power.
