Solidarity Rally for Cuba Held in Avilés, Spain
On 1 July, a rally titled “Cuba no está sola. ¡Basta de agresiones!” took place at Plaza José Martí in Avilés, Asturias. The demonstration was organised by Asturies pola Paz, the Association Lázaro Cárdenas of Gijón/Xixón, the Hispano‑Cuban Association “Paz y Amistad” and the State Movement of Solidarity with Cuba (MESC). Participants called for an end to the United States’ sanctions and the economic blockade imposed on Cuba, describing the measures as illegal under international law and harmful to the Cuban population.
The organisers condemned recent U.S. actions that label Cuba a “threat to national security,” alleging that the policy aims to isolate the island, restrict its access to oil and other goods, and pressure a regime change. They highlighted Cuba’s achievements in health, education and international medical missions, arguing that the sanctions violate human‑rights standards and punish the Cuban people.
