Solidarność seeks national referendum on EU climate policy

The trade union Solidarność has announced it is continuing its collection of signatures for a civic project to organize a national referendum regarding climate policy. Waldemar Bartosz, chairman of the Świętokrzyskie Region of Solidarność, stated that the initiative aims to address the negative economic consequences of European Union climate policies.

Bartosz warned that rising energy prices driven by EU policies could lead to the bankruptcy of many Polish enterprises and reduce industrial competitiveness against cheaper imports from regions such as Asia and Ukraine. The union is seeking to collect at least 500,000 signatures to ensure the Sejm must address the civic proposal, noting that previous presidential requests for such a referendum were rejected by the Senate.
