Solidium sells Sampo shares to fund Finnish government investments
Solidium Oy, the Finnish state-owned investment company, has completed the sale of 70 million Sampo plc A-shares through an accelerated bookbuild process. The sale, executed at 9.00 euros per share, generated gross proceeds of 630 million euros. Following the transaction, Solidium’s ownership in Sampo decreased from 6.2 percent to 3.6 percent of outstanding shares.
The proceeds are primarily intended for capital return to the Finnish state, financing a recent additional investment in Iceye, and meeting general funding requirements. Approximately 500 million euros from the sale, after accounting for taxes, will be directed toward the Finnish government’s investment program, which has grown to nearly 4.7 billion euros and includes significant transport investments.
In conjunction with the sale, Sampo plc conducted share buybacks during week 39 of 2026. This included the repurchase of 781,436 A-shares via an accelerated bookbuild managed by Morgan Stanley Co. International plc, as part of a broader share buyback program authorized by the company’s Annual General Meeting.
