Solidium Oy sale of Sampo plc shares
Overview
Solidium Oy, a Finnish state-owned investment company, completed the sale of 70 million A-shares of Sampo plc through an accelerated bookbuild process. The transaction was executed at 9.00 euros per share, generating 630 million euros in gross proceeds. Following the sale, Solidium’s ownership in Sampo decreased from 6.2 percent to 3.6 percent, and its voting rights fell from 6.2 percent to 3.5 percent.
The proceeds are primarily intended to return capital to the Finnish state and fund investments in ICEYE. Specifically, approximately 500 million euros, after taxes, will be directed toward the Finnish government’s investment program. Solidium has committed not to sell further shares for 90 days and intends to transfer approximately 400 million euros worth of shares to the state by the end of the year.
Following the price decline triggered by the sale, analysts from OP and Inderes upgraded their outlook for Sampo Group, suggesting the stock presents a buying opportunity. OP analysts noted the stock is technically oversold, while Inderes raised its recommendation to ‘buy’ with a target price of 10.50 euros, citing strong earnings growth and a growing dividend. These positive outlooks persist despite a reported 118 million euro impairment loss related to IT systems in Denmark.
In conjunction with this divestment, Sampo plc conducted share buybacks during week 39 of 2026, including the repurchase of 781,436 A-shares via an accelerated bookbuild managed by Morgan Stanley Co. International plc.
