Soliera fire destroys hay barn and damages asbestos roof

A large fire broke out on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, in Soliera, Italy, specifically on via Foschiera near the Sozzigalli district. The blaze destroyed a hay barn containing approximately 500 round bales and damaged a portion of a warehouse roof made of asbestos-cement.

Emergency responders, including firefighters, local police, Civil Protection volunteers, and technicians from Arpae and Ausl, are managing the site. While initial gas measurements by Arpae in nearby areas like Limidi did not show significant levels of harmful compounds, environmental monitoring and sampling are ongoing.

Authorities have issued safety recommendations for residents within a 500-meter radius of the fire. These include staying indoors, keeping windows and doors closed, avoiding air conditioning, and washing any produce from nearby gardens. Farmers in the area are advised to wear FFP3 masks during harvesting and processing operations.
