Solomon Islands advances regional banking ties and national biosecurity

The Central Bank of Solomon Islands (CBSI) has reaffirmed its commitment to the Wansolwara Collaboration, a regional partnership involving the central banks of Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu. Speaking at the 2026 Central Bank Wansolwara Exchange Programme in Port Moresby, CBSI Governor Dr. Luke Forau described the initiative as a way to strengthen cooperation on shared challenges, including financial inclusion, payment system modernization, climate-related risks, and cybersecurity threats.

Separately, the Solomon Islands Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MALD) launched the National Biosecurity Strategy 2026–2036. Developed in partnership with Biosecurity Solomon Islands and the UNDP, the 10-year framework aims to protect the nation's agriculture, food security, and biodiversity from pests, diseases, and invasive species. The strategy focuses on six priority areas: sustainable financing, public engagement, strengthened partnerships, workforce capability, expanded safeguarding, and enhanced risk assessment.
