Solomon Islands national development initiatives

The Solomon Islands is implementing various national development initiatives focused on environmental management, social data collection, and economic support.

In environmental and social sectors, the government has finalized a guide to assess the effectiveness of Marine Managed Areas and Marine Protected Areas. This initiative, supported by the Coral Triangle Initiative, utilizes scorecards to track progress toward sustainable management. Concurrently, the Solomon Islands National Statistics Office and UNICEF have launched training for the country’s first Multi-Indicator Cluster Survey to collect data on the well-being of women and children.

Economic efforts include bolstering the small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector. The Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry is working with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration to profile local and women-led businesses. Additionally, a partnership between Australia and the Development Bank of Solomon Islands aims to provide affordable financing for Indigenous businesses, specifically targeting the agriculture and tourism sectors to improve infrastructure and market connectivity.
