Solomon Islands launches MSME support and financing initiatives

The Solomon Islands is implementing several initiatives to bolster its small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector. The Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) is partnering with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration to profile local and women-led businesses at the inaugural PNG–Solomon Islands Business Investment Conference scheduled for August 19–20.

In a separate development, Australia and the Development Bank of Solomon Islands (DBSI) have established a partnership to provide more affordable financing for SMEs. This blended financing mechanism aims to reduce startup costs and extend credit to Indigenous businesses, particularly within the agriculture and tourism sectors. The initiative is designed to help businesses invest in productive assets and improve transport infrastructure to connect goods and tourists to markets.
