Solomon Islands National University advances infrastructure and research

The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) is advancing its institutional development through infrastructure improvements and expanded research partnerships.

A subcommittee of the SINU Council, the Physical Resource Committee, recently reviewed the management of the university’s land, physical assets, and digital transformation initiatives. Key discussions focused on ongoing rehabilitation projects and campus development at the Kukum and Poitete campuses to enhance teaching and learning environments. The committee emphasized the necessity of sound governance, accountability, and alignment with strategic development plans.

Simultaneously, SINU is strengthening regional collaborations to increase student research and internship opportunities. Representatives from the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), the Centre for Islands Futures (CIF), and WorldFish met to discuss practical experience for students in marine, aquatic, and terrestrial environments. This initiative, funded by the Asian Development Bank as part of the CGIAR Food Frontiers and Security Science Programme, aims to integrate students into national and regional scientific networks.
