Solomon Islands National University institutional expansion

The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) is expanding its institutional capacity through infrastructure development and regional partnerships.

In late August 2026, SINU and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration signed a memorandum of understanding to host the 2026 National Trade Fair. This agreement includes government funding for infrastructure upgrades at SINU Village, such as electrical, drainage, and sanitation improvements. During the same period, a delegation involving SINU and the World Health Organization visited the Philippines to discuss nursing education and health workforce development under the Philippine-Pacific Health Initiative.

By early September 2026, SINU continued its development efforts by reviewing land management and digital transformation initiatives for its Kukum and Poitete campuses. Additionally, the university strengthened scientific collaborations with the Secretariat of the Pacific Community, the Centre for Islands Futures, and WorldFish. These partnerships, supported by the Asian Development Bank, aim to provide students with research and internship opportunities in marine and terrestrial environments.
