Solomon Islands OPMC dismisses motion against Prime Minister Wale

The Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (OPMC) has dismissed a motion to remove Prime Minister Matthew Wale, characterizing the move as a ‘political power grab’ and an attempt to destabilize the government.

In a statement, the OPMC argued that the reasons provided for the motion do not justify a change in leadership. Instead, the office described the motion as an act of political opportunism and poor leadership judgment that prioritizes petty interests over the national interest. The OPMC noted that the GREAT Coalition Government has been in power for only three months and is currently implementing reforms to address long-standing economic, social, and governance challenges.

Key initiatives mentioned include the upcoming rollout of a free education policy, efforts to strengthen good governance, and measures to reduce the cost of living. The OPMC cautioned Solomon Islanders not to be deceived, questioning why politicians would seek to topple a government that has only just begun its reform program.
