In early September 2026, the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (OPMC) dismissed the motion, labeling it a “political power grab.” Shortly thereafter, Manasseh Maelanga withdrew the motion, stating the move was intended to avoid further division and social instability. Prime Minister Wale noted the situation underscored the need for increased consultation with ministers and Members of Parliament. Following the political unrest, Prime Minister Wale announced a two-month delay in tabling the Mineral Resources Bill.
