Solomon Islands rural clinics receive water infrastructure support
Rural health clinics in the Solomon Islands are receiving significant improvements to their water access and sanitation systems through various humanitarian initiatives.
In Western Province, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Solomon Islands, supported by World Vision Solomon Islands and funded by the Australian Government, conducted training for five clinics. The program focused on the maintenance of rainwater catchment systems and safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices. Training sessions were held at Tapurai and Lengana clinics on Simbo Island, Keigol and Korovuku clinics on Ranongga Island, and Vanga Clinic on Kolobangara Island to ensure local committees can sustain reliable water supplies for essential health services.
In Malaita Province, the Sinamauri Rural Healthcare Centre in West Kwaio received a new water tank to improve access for patients, health workers, and the local community. The installation aims to reduce the need for residents to walk long distances for water and provides a critical resource during dry seasons. This project was supported by the Australian Government in partnership with the Solomon Islands Government and UNICEF.
