Solomon Islands transparency group demands audit response
Transparency Solomon Islands (TSI) has called on the government and the National Hosting Authority (NHA) to publicly address Auditor General findings regarding unlawful expenditures during the 2023 Pacific Games.
The audit identified $118.29 million spent on two facilities—the Solomon Islands Football Federation complex ($84.29 million) and the Sports Legacy House ($34 million)—without an approved budget. TSI noted that the High Court found expenditure through the Sports Solomon Fund breached the Public Financial Management Act 2013, and ruled that the NHA’s blanket waiver of competitive tendering was unlawful.
TSI is demanding the NHA release the valuation report for the $34 million Sports Legacy House to justify its purchase price and clarify how the valuation was conducted.
