Soma mine collapse: Nine officials arrested after five workers killed

Nine individuals, including high-level management from a private mining operation in Soma, Manisa, have been arrested following a mine collapse that killed five workers. The suspects include the general manager, deputy general manager, production manager, occupational health and safety manager, and several engineers and supervisors.

The incident occurred on October 1 at approximately 13:15 at a mine operated by İmbat Madencilik. Seven miners were initially trapped underground; while two were rescued with injuries, the bodies of Halit Ersay, Kerim Ören, Ramazan İnce, İsa Olcay, and Ömer Karakaya were recovered.

An investigation is being coordinated by the Soma Chief Public Prosecutor's Office with three prosecutors assigned. Additionally, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security have dispatched expert teams and chief inspectors to investigate the circumstances of the collapse.
