Soma, Turkey Implements 20 Million‑TL Rainwater Drainage System

Manisa Metropolitan Municipality and the Manisa Water and Sewerage Administration (MASKİ) have launched a roughly 20 million Turkish‑lira rainwater drainage project in Soma. The works involve installing about 2,700 metres of pipe in the Istasyon and İnönü neighbourhoods and constructing 330 rainwater grates to better channel runoff.

Mayor Besim Dutlulu inspected the works with municipal officials, noting that the infrastructure aims to reduce flood and flash‑flood risks that have historically affected Soma, especially after Bakırçay River overflows. The upgraded system is expected to protect lives and property and to strengthen the district’s overall drainage capacity once completed.
