Somalia praises Turkey for expanding multidimensional partnership

Somali Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hassan Moallin Muhamoud Sheikhali, has described the relationship between Somalia and Turkey as one of the most significant partnerships the country has established in the last 15 to 16 years. Speaking in an interview, Sheikhali noted that what began as humanitarian aid in 2011 has evolved into a multidimensional partnership spanning social services, education, health, economy, justice, defense, and security.

Sheikhali specifically highlighted the TÜRKSOM Military Training Base, established by the Turkish Armed Forces in Mogadishu, as a vital asset. He stated that the facility has addressed a critical need by allowing Somali security forces to receive training within their own country, rather than being sent to neighboring nations, which previously caused issues regarding equipment compatibility and cultural adaptation. He characterized Turkey’s investment model in Somalia’s recovery as an exemplary framework that could be applied to other nations.
