Spain outdoor accidents: fatal paragliding fall in Cáceres and hiking death in Asturias

Two separate fatal accidents involving outdoor activities have occurred in Spain.

In the Sierra de Montánchez, Cáceres, a 50-year-old man died during a paragliding flight. The accident occurred at the start of the flight, causing him to fall. A second paraglider, aged 35, was also involved; he became trapped in thick brushwood but was rescued by firefighters and found to be uninjured. Authorities have opened an investigation into the incident.

In Somiedo, Asturias, a 75-year-old man died after falling approximately 200 meters while hiking a route between the Saliencia lakes and Bígaros peak. The victim was accompanied by his daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. Rescue efforts by the Guardia Civil and emergency services were complicated by dense fog and difficult terrain, which prevented helicopter operations in certain areas and required ground teams to reach the site.
