Sonam Wangchuk's health worsens during 15‑day hunger strike at Delhi's Jantar Mantar
Educator and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk's condition deteriorated as his indefinite hunger strike entered its 15th day at Jantar Mantar, Delhi. A health update from the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) recorded his blood pressure at 104/66 mm Hg and a weight loss of 7.8 kg since the fast began on 28 June.
The CJP, which started its sit‑in on 20 June, is protesting alleged examination irregularities, including a NEET‑UG paper leak that led to student suicides. The group demands the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and compensation of ₹1 crore for each affected family. It has announced a peaceful march to Parliament on 20 July, the opening day of the Monsoon Session.
Numerous political figures have visited the protest, including former Kerala ministers K K Shylaja, K N Balagopal, P Rajeev, Samajwadi Party MP Pushpendra Saroj, and Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray, who urged parties to support the movement without partisan bias. Wangchuk has repeatedly rejected being called a “modern Gandhi,” urging citizens to “be the hero of your own life” and to join the July 20 march.
