Algeria expands energy partnerships with US firms and South Africa

Algeria is actively expanding its energy partnerships through high-level diplomatic and commercial engagements. In the United States, a delegation from the national oil company Sonatrach participated in the LNG summit in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and the Algeria Energy Day event. These activities aimed to promote the ‘Algeria Bid Round 2026’ and attract foreign direct investment.

Sonatrach has established new cooperation tracks with major American energy firms, including ExxonMobil, Halliburton, and Devon Energy. Discussions focused on upstream activities, exploration, production, and technological innovation. Specifically, the company is seeking expertise in drilling, hydraulic stimulation, and the development of shale resources.

Simultaneously, Algeria is strengthening its South-South cooperation, notably with South Africa. Recent discussions between Algerian and South African officials focused on consolidating the energy axis across the entire petroleum and gas value chain, including refining, petrochemicals, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) marketing.
