Songdo apartment residents protest over withheld design and supervision data

Residents of the Songdo SK View Lux Ocean apartment complex in Incheon held a protest on September 18, demanding full transparency regarding the design and supervision of their building. The demonstration follows an incident on August 7, where exterior wall terraces and cladding collapsed at the newly completed complex, which had been in use for only about a year.

The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority (IFEZA) denied requests for information regarding the design and supervision processes, citing the need to protect the interests of third parties, specifically the supervisors who requested non-disclosure. In response, the residents' emergency committee is demanding the release of design changes, permit processes, structural calculations, and supervision reports.

While no injuries occurred during the August collapse as the affected units were unoccupied, residents expressed significant anxiety regarding the ongoing safety of the building. A joint investigation committee formed by Incheon City and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is currently examining the construction, design, and supervision processes, with findings expected by November 20.
