Sonny Gray to continue MLB career as free agency approaches

Pitcher Sonny Gray has decided to continue his professional career in 2027 after briefly considering retirement following the Boston Red Sox's elimination in the AL Wild Card Round. Gray's current contract includes a $30 million mutual option for the upcoming season that is unlikely to be exercised, which would make him a free agent.

Several teams have been linked to the veteran starter as they look to bolster their pitching rotations. The Chicago Cubs are considered a favorite to land Gray as they seek to strengthen their rotation and compete in the NL Central. Other potential landing spots discussed include the Chicago White Sox, who require a workhorse starter to support their young pitching staff, and the Houston Astros.
