Sonora and San Juan de Sabinas receive major water infrastructure investments
The state of Sonora will receive 853 million pesos for water projects in the Río Sonora basin, covering eight towns. Of this, 353 million pesos comes from the Integral Water Plan and 500 million pesos from Grupo México’s remediation program. Governor Alfonso Durazo said the work, coordinated with the federal government and Conagua, will include new potable‑water plants, disinfection systems, a pump station, and upgrades to the El Molinito dam, as well as irrigation district improvements. Additional funding for Hermosillo and Nogales supports sanitation upgrades and irrigation projects.
In the municipality of San Juan de Sabinas, a separate initiative will build a potable‑water network from a former Zapalinamé coal‑mine well to the La Minita community. Backed by the state government, the Comisión Estatal de Aguas y Saneamiento (CEAS) and the Rotary Club Nueva Rosita Centenario, the project aims to serve about 100 families using a reservoir of roughly 100 000 litres, pending technical validation.
