Sonora detects first case of New World Screwworm

The first case of New World Screwworm (NWS) has been detected in Sonora, Mexico. This detection comes amid industry efforts to manage the threat through sterile fly production and dispersal.

In response to the threat, a sterile fly production facility is expected to open in Texas, and Secretary Rollins has announced a $25 million commitment for a new sterile fly dispersal facility in Arizona. Additionally, the USDA is expected to reopen the border with Mexico regarding cattle on feed.
