Sonora faces extreme heat and heavy monsoon rains

The state of Sonora is facing extreme weather conditions characterized by intense heat and heavy rainfall. In Hermosillo, temperatures are expected to reach between 44 and 46 degrees Celsius during the coming Thursday and Friday. This heatwave is attributed to El Niño factors and an anticyclone positioned between Arizona and New Mexico. Other municipalities will also experience high temperatures, with Ciudad Obregón reaching up to 44 degrees and Navojoa hitting 43 degrees.

Simultaneously, the Mexican monsoon is influencing the region, bringing heavy rains, electrical activity, and wind gusts, particularly in the southeastern and mountainous areas of the state. Some areas may see rainfall accumulations between 50 and 75 millimeters. While the monsoon intensity may decrease in some parts of the state, reducing rain probability to 10 percent in certain zones, the combination of high temperatures and potential storm activity remains a primary concern for the region.
