Sonora government distributes 14,000 university scholarships in Cajeme and Navojoa

The Government of Sonora has distributed more than 14,000 scholarships to public university students in the municipalities of Cajeme and Navojoa. This recent initiative involved an investment exceeding 70 million pesos to support student retention.

Over the last four years of Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño’s administration, the state has invested more than 3.66 billion pesos in educational incentives, totaling 607,181 scholarships for children and youth. For the first half of 2026, the Institute of Scholarships and Educational Credit of the State of Sonora (Ibcees) reported the delivery of 44,500 scholarships with an investment of 255 million pesos.

Looking ahead to the 2026-2 semester, Governor Durazo and President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo plan to coordinate a historic investment for the ‘Becas Sonora de Oportunidades’ program. The goal is to expand coverage so that all students enrolled in the public university system can access economic support to cover essential costs such as transportation, food, and school materials.
