Sonora Health Dept Warns of Heat‑Related Emotional Risks
On July 8 2026, the Sonora government’s Secretariat of Public Health issued an advisory that extreme temperatures can affect mental health as well as physical health. Director of Mental Health and Addictions Antonio Noriega Escalante explained that high heat may increase irritability, impatience, anxiety and sadness, and can impair concentration and work or school performance.
The department recommends staying well hydrated, using the free oral rehydration solution Vida Suero Oral, avoiding prolonged sun exposure, wearing light clothing and sunscreen, and seeking cooler places for rest. Vulnerable groups such as older adults, especially those with dementia, should take extra precautions. Residents are urged to monitor mood changes and obtain professional support if irritability, anxiety or sadness persist.
