Sony and Fujifilm announce new professional imaging hardware

Sony has introduced the FX5, a new full-frame camera for its Cinema Line designed for professional video production. Positioned between the FX3 and FX6, the camera is intended for use in cinema, documentaries, advertising, and music videos. It features a new generation full-frame CMOS sensor, Open Gate recording, advanced autofocus, and a stabilization system optimized for handheld shooting.

The FX5 is designed for versatility, allowing operators to configure the body for use on tripods, gimbals, or professional rigs. Its sensor is engineered to manage high dynamic range, preserving detail in both highlights and shadows to facilitate color correction and grading.

Meanwhile, Fujifilm has revealed the final design of the VF-GFXC2 electronic viewfinder (EVF) for the GFX ETERNA 55. Unveiled at IBC 2026, the EVF features a native 4:3 aspect ratio panel with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 and a brightness of up to 1,000 nits. The unit is constructed from a single piece of machined aluminum and includes two programmable buttons and a dedicated display button to toggle between full-frame and data-overlay views. The VF-GFXC2 is expected to be available during 2026.
